On Wednesday, a special court in Jaipur had convicted four people for the 2008 Jaipur blasts, which killed nearly 80 people and left many others injured. The quantum of sentence was announced on Friday by the special court.
Two of the three judges, Justice Seth and Justice Karim gave the death sentence while Justice Nazarullah Akbar wrote a dissenting note saying that the prosecution team could not prove treason case.
According to new provisions, the investigation is completed within seven working days if there is 'adequate conclusive evidence'. The new law also states trial must be completed within 14 working days, thus reducing the total judgment time to 21 working days.
Akshay Singh, who had not filed the review plea earlier with the other three convicts, has now moved the apex court with a petition asking to spare him from the death penalty.
