According to Pawan Gupta, who works at Marshall Space Flight Center in NASA, at least 22 million people were affected by smoke produced due to stubble burning on November 11 alone.

'Environmentalist' Jha said that to blame stubble burning as the major cause of air pollution in Delhi is incorrect because it happens for only 2-3 weeks. However, Jha had very vocally blamed one evening of Diwali celebrations for the pollution in Delhi.
The apex court directed the Centre to hold an emergency meeting to discuss issues such as the implementation of work from home, stopping power plants, construction and non-essential transport.
