According to the Delhi police, the NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha was at the helm of a disinformation campaign under the pretext of protesting against the NRC and CAA.

This comes after the Delhi Police registered a case on Sunday following a complaint by the Ministry of Home Affairs in connection with the doctored videos of Union Home Minister Amit Shah being circulated on social media platforms.

Prior to killing the Hindu woman, the accused had posted a video on his Instagram page wherein he was seen brandishing and firing a pistol.

The Police said: "Thus, the captioned tweet by the complainant Mr. Jagdish Singh made on 18.04.2020 does not cause fear or alarm to the public or any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against any state or against public tranquillity."

DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo stated that no eyewitnesses were found during the investigation of the crime scene. Later, authorities recovered CCTV footage showing a man stabbing the victim, assisted by three others.

Prabir Purkayastha and Chakraborty have been accused of receiving illicit funding from China which was routed through the United States.

Delhi Police have invoked relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against social media infuelcer Pradeep Dhaka and fined him Rs 36,000.
