In a major order, the Supreme Court today (10th May) upheld the Allahabad High Court’s Order to demolish illegal settlements in Akbar Nagar in Lucknow.
He further highlighted that two temples have gone “missing” and the Devi Sannathi in Sri Ekambareswarar Temple has been demolished with houses built there. The encroachment extends to 23000 square feet of the temple land.
According to temple committee officials, the local Muslims have prepared fake documents from the office of the District Commissioner to stake a claim on the Hindu land.
Meanwhile, the Haldwani Municipal Corporation on Monday issued a recovery notice of Rs 2.44 crore against Abdul Malik, a key accused in the violence at Haldwani, asking him to deposit the money to cover damage caused to government property during the clash.
As per reports, locals said that the police had visited the site a number of times before and had also seized equipment, yet, the administration was caught unawares when they found the pond-site levelled.
