The decision to join the farmers' protest in Delhi comes amidst ongoing agitation from Punjab farmers, planning to march to the national capital to press for various demands
The posters raised by the COBI members read “Industries and workers of Bahadurgarh humbly request our farmer brothers not to gather and take away our means of livelihood (Bahdurgarh ke udyogon aur karmchariyon kii taraf se kisan bhaiyon se vinamra prarthna hai ki yahan ekatrit hokar hamare pait par laat na maarein).
According to the intelligence report, around 1,500 tractors and 500 vehicles have been mobilised for the farmers' protest in Punjab alone. These tractors have been modified to convert them into shelters and stays.
Tensions were heightened following a clash between the police and the protesting farmers who were going to participate in a protest in Chandigarh against the Bhagwant Mann government.
Navdeep Singh, who was widely hailed by liberals for breaking police barricade and turning off water cannon in 2020 protests, was arrested for supporting Amritpal Singh.
Punjab Police officials imposed a lathi charge on the farmers and labour union workers who staged massive protests outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Sangrur.
