A young woman from Baghpat has accused a man, identified as Adil from Alipur, of trapping her in a romantic relationship under false pretences, coercing her into religious conversion, and subjecting her to prolonged sexual abuse
Hina, a Pilibhit resident, filed a complaint with Bareilly police around a month and a half after their marriage, alleging Pandit Shankhdhar of forcing her to embrace Hinduism. Hina has also accused her husband, Prem Shankar Gupta, and her brother-in-law of tricking her into marriage.
Gupta belonged to the Kasganj area but stayed in Manipuri as he worked for Javed in his seed shop. It is believed that the accused persons murdered Gupta and hung his body by the roof. The accused persons also tried to damage Gupta's face by pouring acid on it.
In the amended Anti-Conversion Law, illegal religious conversion has been made a punishable offence that attracts 3 to 10 years of imprisonment. At the same time, mass religious conversions and religious conversions using foreign funds will attract a punishment of 7 to 14 years of imprisonment.
The statement of reasons of the bill tabled by CM Yogi Adityanath noted that the existing provisions under the Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021 are not sufficient and they should be made as stringent as possible.
The duo alleged that Sapna alias Rakshanda Khan used to encourage Hindu girls to befriend Muslim boys and do Nikah with them after converting to Islam. They also alleged that Rakshanda used to keep Hindu girls in groups with Muslim boys at the academy situated on Kanth Road. The duo said that Rakshanda Khan was originally a Hindu, however, converted to Islam before marrying a Muslim man named Shahnawaz Khan 17 years ago.
