Blending of ethanol into petrol has resulted in savings of over Rs 24,300 crore of foreign exchange in the supply year 2022-23, said Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri on Wednesday.

Puri was talking to the media during a function to flag wave a CNG-driven boat race on the river Ganga here. This function was organized as a run-up to India Energy week which will take place next month in Bengaluru.

Puri said Bengal, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand are yet to reduce VAT on petroleum products.

Hardeep Singh Puri told CNN, "We have 1.34 billion population and we have to ensure that they are supplied with energy."
