While 'liberals' in India try to argue that hijab is a choice and make efforts to mainstream the garment in schools, women in Iran are getting killed and girls in Indonesia are being traumatised for it.
The Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Karnataka government on petitions challenging a High Court ruling refusing to lift the ban on hijab in state educational institutions
The controversy erupted on May 26 after a group of students from the University College in Mangaluru had protested against the college authorities, alleging that a few Muslim girl students were attending classes wearing the hijab violating the High Court order.
At least 24 girl students from Kundapur, 14 from Byndoor and two from Udupi Government Girls Pre-University college have missed the exams in because they did not want to follow uniform dress code.
