The Centre pointed out that every new recruit of SIMI is administered an oath which asserts that they would operate for 'establishment of Islamic system'. The affidavit was submitted in response to a petition contesting the 2019 notification that extended the outfit's ban under the UAPA.
Furthermore, the Home Ministry stated that the government has bolstered the legislative framework by amending UAPA, 1967, and NIA Act, 2008 in the year 2019.
"During the last three years from 2019 to 2021, the FCRA Registration Certificates of 1,811 associations have been cancelled under section 14 of The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA, 2010) due to violation of provisions of the FCRA, 2010," the Minister mentioned in the reply.
"We argued on health grounds. His health was deteriorating and we produced his health records before the court... CBI said that they would go to the higher court against this order, the court allowed them and in that context, it stayed the order for 10 days," Advocate Aniket Nikam said.
