While revoking permission to celebrate Ram Navami at campus, Jadavpur University said in its notice that they recieved complaints of communal threats from different groups of students at the University, which might lead to the disruption of peace and harmony within the campus.
The ABVP students were stopped by security guards led by pro-Vice-Chancellor Amitava Datta. This led to a scuffle between the two, leading to injuries.
Swapnodeep Kundu was trying to enter the toilet of Jadavpur University hostel to take cover but could not make it. He then entered into a room from where a third-year engineering student dragged him out.
The University reportedly stands to face another big charge under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act if the authenticity of the said image is proved.
Jadavpur University interim VC Sau added that the steps had been taken earlier over the allegations of ragging as per the rules and guidelines. He admitted there have been lapses on the University's side and said, "We will have to ensure that such things do not happen again."
Jadavpur University's Dean of Science Faculty, Subenoy Chakraborty, who headed the 10-member committee investigating the student's death resigned from his post on Sunday.
Swapnodeep Kundu was mentally tormented by both of them. During the police inquiry, it was found that the two were directly involved in the alleged incident of ragging.
According to reports, Kundu repeatedly told his fellow students, "I am not gay," before the deadly fall. The deceased's naked body was found after his fall from the balcony.
