Revanna is facing a probe by the SIT over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in his household. He returned to India from Berlin, Germany, nearly a month after leaving the country on a diplomatic passport and was immediately taken into custody.
During the practice session of the play, the two Hindu students chanted Jai Shri Ram, which was a part of the play's script. The Muslim students took offence to this and assaulted the Hindu students
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Deputy Superintendent of Police and the Channagiri police station inspector have been suspended. He, however, added that it was not a custodial death.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to cancel the Diplomatic Passport of JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna who is facing an SIT probe over the allegation of sexual harassment "along with prompt and concerted actions to secure his return to India."
