The then ruler of Mysore and Srirangapatna, Tipu Sultan had demolished several temples to build mosques in the area. "Jumma Masjid was constructed by Tipu Sultan on top of the Anjaneya temple after filling up latter's ground floor," the old archaeological report had stated.
Another relative of the deceased said that two men hit him on the head and continuously stabbed Vijaya. He said he tried to rescue the deceased by taking him to hospital, but he had succumbed to severe injuries midway.
