Bombay High Court criticized the Maharashtra government for demolishing over 70 houses built on encroached land in the Vishalgadh Fort area in Kolhapur
Congress MP Shahu Maharaj visited Vishalgad and took stock of the situation days after alleged violence was created by a group led by his son Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati
The Vishalgadh Fort, one of the relics of the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, had recently fallen prey to the encroachers trying to expand a mosque built in its premises.
“The administration has started removing encroachments from Vishalgadh. However, attempts are being made to give it a communal color. The first few encroachments which have been removed belong to Hindu community members,” Sambhajiraje clarified while talking to the reporters in Kolhapur.
The Mohamedan Education Society's office holders assert that the organisation is not governed by the waqf board. They also say that it should remain independent because Shahu Maharaj founded it with educational goals in mind.
“FIR registered against MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande and 8 others under Maharashtra police act 37, 135, for burning an effigy of Aurangzeb in the aftermath of Kolhapur protests,” informed the Mumbai Police.
