"Islamic tenets do not permit live-in relationships during the subsisting marriage. The position may be different if the two persons are unmarried and the parties being major choose to lead their lives in a way of their own," the bench said.
In his appeal, Ashish Kumar claimed that he had been in a relationship with the detenue since 2011. It was also alleged that, despite the couple's desire to marry, the woman's family opposed the union, thus she was forced to stay at home and forbidden from meeting Kumar.
Aditya and the complainant woman were in a live-in relationship for the past 1.5 years and the woman had reportedly become pregnant with his child. However, the woman alleged that Aditya refused to marry her and sent her intimate photographs to her husband. As a result, she got rejected by her husband too.
As per the police, the family of the accused was pressuring him to get married and in December last year, his engagement and wedding were fixed with another girl.
