Acharya Pawan Tripathi, a BJP leader, turned over documentation of a fraudulent PAN card for the Malvani region in the Malad West Assembly constituency, a Mumbai suburb. He stated that in several Muslim-dominated communities, there were reports of more PAN cards being registered in the name of a population that probably doesn't exist.
As per the official letter, the matter was first taken up with the Chief Secretary of the Government of Maharashtra in October 2023, who was supposed to submit the action taken report within 7 days. However, the case was transferred to the home department. It is pending since then.
"To sensitise police stations to deal with such cases, an SOP needs to be formed. If timely action is taken, tensions within the communities can be avoided," Fadnavis said.
The development was confirmed to OpIndia by complainant Prasad Madhusudan Dandawate of the Pandavwada Sangharsh Samiti. He said that the Court has issued a stay order against the section 144 directive and has allowed members of both the communities to enter into the premises for prayers.
The Mohamedan Education Society's office holders assert that the organisation is not governed by the waqf board. They also say that it should remain independent because Shahu Maharaj founded it with educational goals in mind.
“Some organisations had called for a Kolhapur bandh and the members of these organisations gathered at Shivaji Chowk today. After their demonstration ended, the crowd began to disperse but some miscreants started pelting stones, forcing police to use force against these people to disperse them,” Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit said.
The accused has been booked under sections 354(A)(4) (making sexually colored remarks, which constitutes the offence of sexual harassment), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
