The arrest of builder Ayan Sheel, who is based in Kolkata, by the ED on March 19 concerning the SSC recruitment scam exposed the purported anomalies in municipality recruitments in West Bengal
TMC minister Chandrima Bhattacharya filed a complaint alleging that Malviya 'defamed' the West Bengal Chief Minister in a social media post in which he questioned why WB authorities had not apprehended absconding TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, the alleged mastermind of the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials.
According to a report by ABP Ananda, OMR (optical mark reader) sheets were manipulated for the appointment of 2823 employees in the Group D category. About 170 people were given jobs directly without issuing recommendation letters.
"They behaved like local goons. They shouted at the top of their voice; not a single decent language was used. All slang and filthy expletives," Protap Chandra Dey narrated.
In February 2012, Mamata Banerjee made Urdu the second language in areas of West Bengal where the population of Urdu speakers was equal or more than 10%.
