Maratha Reservation

Jarange Patil has seemingly lost direction while primarily fighting for the Maratha quota in the state. He has also issued threats to the government saying he would see how the state fails to provide reservation to the Muslim community.

This is the third time in a decade that the state has introduced legislation for the Maratha quota. Previous govt's similar provision was struck down by the SC.

The Union Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) said that he will hold a press conference on this issue later today.

The incident happened at the MLAs' residence near Akashvani in Mumbai's Colaba region. Mushrif commented on the matter and confirmed that he was safe. He also appealed to the police to release all the detained persons in the case.

The Police have reportedly arrested around 49 people from Beed for engaging in arson and vandalism. Also, curfew continues to be imposed in Maharashtra's Dharashiv and Beed districts. Fresh violence has been reported from Pune. Details.

SC raised a significant question on the controversial issue of reservation policies in the country during a case pertaining to Maratha reservation

The Act was passed by the State Legislative Assembly on 29th November 2018 granting 16% reservation to Marathas

The petitioners had argued that the State government passed the SEBC Act on the basis of unqualified data and without revising the list in the light of the provisions of the existing list of backward classes.
