Former Union Minister MJ Akbar had filed a defamation case againt Priya Ramani in 2019 to which she had pleaded not guilty.

"The society must understand the impact of sexual abuse and harassment on its victims", the Court said, adding the defendant had the rights under Article 21 that is guaranteed under the Constitution.

The case has been adjourned and Akbar's witnesses would be cross-examined on July 15 and 17. Advocate Rebecca John is representing Priya Ramani while Akbar is being represented by advocates Geeta Luthra and Sandeep Kapur.
