After 285 years, Supreme Court has halted the Ratha Jatra this year due to the ongoing pandemic caused by the Chinese virus, as Odisha government apprised SC of the dangers of congregation.

Earlier, the temple administration had decided to take out the Rath Yatra under Section 144 imposition, without the presence of devotees. The construction of Ratha was already underway.

The cyclone Amphan is moving over the southeast Bay of Bengal and has been turning north-northwestwards over past six hours, the IMD said.
