The Madras High Court dismissed the lawyer's plea and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. The petition was filed against the order of the Tamilnadu government making masks compulsory in Chennai.

The Supreme Court has told in its verdict that there is no merit in the PILs filed, and such filing such petitions are a waste of judicial time. It added that such frivolous PILs need to be 'nipped in the bud' so that development work is not stopped.

The petitioner alleged that the rejection of permission to play Azaan on the loudspeaker was 'illegal' and violative of his fundamental rights.

Additional Solicitor General representing the govt said said that the plea about Waqf Act 1995 raises substantial questions.

The PIL against the Waqf Act said, "If the impugned Act has been made to protect the rights guaranteed under Articles 29-30 then it has to cover all the minorities."

The incident of rape and murder occurred in the Gajna gram panchayat in Nadia's Hashkhali block number one.

The petitioner's counsel sought permission from the court to withdraw the writ petition to pursue an alternative remedy.
