Sanjay Roy initially confessed to the crime after his arrest. However, hours before the scheduled polygraph test, he reversed his stance, claiming innocence in the case. He is currently held in solitary confinement under tight security with CCTV surveillance. Roy has asserted that he was framed in the case.
