The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said it was "closely" watching the recent developments in India, including Parliament passing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the verdict in the Ayodhya case.
"Announcements were made in the locality since two-three days asking us to mobilise people to protest against the NRC. We were asked to gather on Tuesday," said a protestor speaking to India Today.
Kafeel Khan was booked under section 153-A on the 13th of December for his speech in Aligarh which was allegedly provocative and an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere and spread communal disharmony.
The decision to remove him from the post was taken reportedly after Jamaat across the state and the local Muslim community in Ranipet had put pressure following his vote in support of the CAB.
