In another tweet, Raza Academy appealed to Muslims to organise prayers and religious events instead of indulging in obscene acts in the name of new year celebrations.

Raza Academy was founded in 1978. Its office is located on Mohammed Ali Road in Mumbai. The Islamist outfit was established to publish and propagate the work of Sunni leader Ahmed Raza Khan, who lived in the 20th century.

The Islamist inclinations of Raza Academy is no secret. Over the years, they have been involved in a series of violent protests.

Nitesh Rane has said that he will lodge a formal complaint against the Raza Academy for "provoking" riots in Maharashtra.
