The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered that the status quo be maintained at the Shambhu border near Ambala, where farmers have been camping since February 13.
According to reports, 21-year-old Shubhkaran Singh, a Bathinda local, was slain and 12 police officers were injured in clashes at the Khanauri border post on the Punjab-Haryana border on 21st February. The incident transpired as several protesting farmers attempted to approach the barricades.
"Proceedings have been initiated under the NSA National Security Act 1980/NSA against the chief officials of farmer organizations and the agitators," the Ambala police said on X.
The farmers in the Punjab Haryana border who are gearing up to reach Delhi to talk to the government over the guaranteed MSP issues, have begun donning gas masks and fortified gear to face the police. This is a week after the farmers failed to cross the border given the heavy police presence.
Videos shared on social media show heavy machinery being taken by protesters to the Haryana border. The person filming the video can be heard saying that the poclain machine is being carried to move the barricades put up at the Shambhu border.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher demanded that the Modi government should bring an ordinance granting a legal guarantee to Minimum Support Price (MSP).
