According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, unlike the 2013 Draft National Sports Development Bill, the 2024 Sports Bill lays emphasis on building institutional capacity and governance standards for National Sports Federations [NSF] in alignment with the Olympic and Paralympic Charter.

The assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Vinod Tomar, was suspended on Saturday by Anurag Thakur's Sports Ministry in response to the protest organised by India's decorated wrestlers against the WFI.

This comes after Sports Minister Anurag Thakur met the protesting wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik at his residence. 

"...all other states do what’s required in order to ensure their weightlifters benefit. But it’s not the case here," Achinta Sheuli had said in 2020.

PM Modi also requested the players to send written suggestions and letters to him recommending how the infrastructure and training in the country can be bettered.

Talking about the preparations, Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) President Deepa Malik had told ANI, "There was a difficult time in getting the trials done, to be able to make the SOP, we want to thank the Sports Authority of India."
