On March 8, a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court had referred the long-standing Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid dispute for mediation. The mediation panel is chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice FMI Kalifulla, along with spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior Advocate Sriram Panchu.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday had reserved its order on the matter of referring the Ayodhya dispute to a court-appointed and monitored mediation. While the Muslim petitioners were "agreeable to mediation", Hindu petitioners had opposed it.
They assert that an out of court settlement in the Ram Janmabhoomi case will be better for Hindu-Muslim relations while complimenting the spiritual leader.
