On Wednesday, February 14th, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Swaminarayan Mandir in Abu Dhabi, the first Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates.
On 4th September, the saints of the Swaminarayan sect and other saints of Hinduism met at Ahmedabad and decided to remove the disputed murals before sunrise on 5th September. The meeting was organised by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Protests erupt in Gujarat over the murals installed under the statue of Lord Hanuman in Salangpur where the Hindu deity is portrayed as a servant of Sahajanand Swami.

In May this year, a group of Indian workers in US had filed a lawsuit alleging human trafficking and forced labour and had claimed they were confined and forced to work for as low as USD 1 on construction of the Swaminarayan temple in New Jersey's Robbinsville.
