While the closure of the Sterlite Copper plant sas resulted in the loss of over 1500 direct jobs and over 40,000 jobs, the impact of the shutdown over alleged pollution is much bigger on the Indian economy

Truck owners, who previously relied on transporting materials for Sterlite Copper Plant, were forced to sell their vehicles as they were unable to pay their loans. Around a million daily wage workers have been left unemployed. Many businesses in the region that relied on industrial demand have now been forced to shut their shutters.
