The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill was passed on Wednesday n the Uttarakhand assembly with a comfortable majority during a special session.

The Times recently published an article claiming the introduction of UCC is an attempt at 'overturning Sharia law in Muslim crackdown'

The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Sunday approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) report in a meeting held at the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's residence.

The Uttarakhand Cabinet has approved the decisions taken so far by the five-member panel formed to prepare a draft for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC)

Amit Shah said, "A false propaganda was peddled among the minorities and especially the Muslims in India that the CAA would take away their citizenship. No one's citizenship is cancelled by the CAA."

The Uttarakhand govt also seeks to ban polygamy completely in the draft bill of the UCC, along with introducing a provision to register live-in relationships.

Given the resistance by the Opposition and the previous committee towards the term 'uniformity', it is imperative that the Centre in its UCC draft publishes a specified definition of the term in the context of equality not only within but also amongst personal laws.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (JUH) has now got QR codes pasted outside mosques across the country to send objections to UCC to the law commission

The party also reportedly pointed out that reforms in personal laws can be made by amending individual laws instead of uniformity across personal laws.

The Communist Party of India was however quick to justify that inviting Muslim speakers for an event on the Uniform Civil Code was not necessary.
