The Madurai bench of the High Court said, "Mother Nature is accorded the rights akin to fundamental rights, legal rights, constitutional rights for its survival, safety, sustenance, and resurgence in order to maintain its status and also to promote its health and well-being."

The trial in the case of the blasts of 26th July 2008 had started in 2009 and completed in September 2021. The court has convicted 49 of the 77 accused earlier this month.
